The AT90USB1287 is used as a communication link between AVR QTouch Studio and the ATxmega128A1 on the XPLAIN board. To enable this communication the AT90USB1287 device needs to be programmed with the correct firmware. The following steps explain how to do this. Refer to Figure 3.2 for connection details.

Connect a JTAG programmer (AVR Dragon, JTAGICE mkII or AVRONE!) to the 10-pin header marked JTAG USB on the XPLAIN board.

Connect the JTAG programmer to the PC host and power the JTAG programmer.

Connect an USB cable to the XPLAIN board and the PC, to power the XPLAIN board.

Program the AT90USB1287 with the hex file named AT90USB1287_QTouch_Xplained_USB.elf.
