To utilize the on-board LCD, connect the supplied 44-lead flat cable between the LCD PINS connector and the AVR SEGMENT PINS as shown on the picture below. This will connect the AVR's LCD segment pins and common pins to the appropriate pins on the display. The LCD segment mapping can be found in LCD pinout and segment mapping.
