STK600 is designed to support a wide range of devices with different packages and pinouts. Many compromises have been taken to make this possible with one motherboard. The signal integrity is not optimized due to this. STK600 is not a reference design in any way, but a kit that serves as a socket programmer with some additional peripheral hardware to get started with the AVR device. Serial communication at the highest frequencies may not work.
